Prepping for a Winter Wedding

Pin It with STL Weddings

While winter is not traditionally the most popular season for weddings, it can still provide an amazing setting for a fabulous wedding celebration. After all, the holidays are just around the corner (or just passed), everyone is cheerful, excited about the first or second snow and gearing up for the New Year!

Something to keep in mind when planning a winter wedding is the weather. As with the summer, it is always important to consider your guests comfort when putting together that perfect day. Here are a few tips to get you moving down the right path:

  • Keep it Close!
As in close, I’m referring to the distance between the ceremony and the reception. With a possibility of inclement weather, it’s important to limit the amount of traveling your guests might have to do, especially if they are from out of town.
  • Keep it Warm!
This seems obvious, but just as you would keep your guests cool in the summer, make sure the AC is not on full blast in the church for the ceremony. No one wants to watch a ceremony while sitting in their coats, so make arrangements for a good temperature.
  • Keep it Wrapped!
This applies to you and your wedding party! As expected, you may be out and about taking pictures in the beautiful winter scenery. Just be sure to accommodate your wedding party (especially the girls) with a nice warm wrap to keep them warm while posing!
  • Keep it Warm x 2!
After you get your venue to the right temperature, consider offering a hot beverage as your signature drink, maybe a Bailey’s and coffee? Or apple cider with a kick? Talk to your venue and see what they can do. A signature drink is a great way to add to your theme!
  • Keep it Cool!
Cool colors and winter themed décor can bring a soft yet meaningful touch to your winter wedding. Don’t be shy if you want to go for a color of ice blue or snowflake (yes they do make snowflake colored linens), make it happen and get creative!
  • Keep it Fun!
If guests are making the trip through snow or ice for your wedding, you better be prepared to show them a good time! After all, that’s what a wedding is all about.  Right? Be ready for dancing, mingling and having a blast with your guests!

Hopefully, by now, you’re all geared and ready to hit the planning for your winter wonderland wedding. Don’t be afraid to plan for the cold, because the holiday season is a great time to have the wedding of your dreams, especially with friends and family already close by. Just remember to be considerate of the season and potential weather impacts. After that, the rest is cake…literally! Cheers!
