Thanks for the perfect honeymoon baby!
It used to be that he got down on one knee, you got married, and you took a honeymoon to a tropical locale.
And you’d stay in a cheesy “honeymoon suite.”
Thankfully, that has changed in recent years.
Now, the locations for your honeymoon are only limited by your imagination.
Here are nine locations we recommend to start your new life together.
Budget Destinations
New York City
New York City is one of the most popular travel destinations and for the same reasons—numerous wonderful hotels, plenty to see, and an excellent dining culture–the Big Apple is a great place for your honeymoon as well. You and your spouse can see a Broadway play one night, see a concert in Central Park the next, and take in an art museum the following. There are few cities in the world with as many options as New York.
Napa/Sonoma Valleys
You just spent months planning your wedding only to be followed by a whirlwind of a day. Perhaps you don’t want to head to the bustling city but instead want to get away from it all, accompanied only by your spouse and a bottle of wine. There’s no better place than the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. And if you decide you want the city afterall, you’re only an hour and a half away from San Francisco.
Vancouver
So you want to leave the US but you’ve already spent a fortune on your wedding? Look north to Vancouver. Although not the most traditional of honeymoon spots, Vancouver is blessed with a geography that will give you the mountains in the morning and the beach in the afternoon, cultural activities that will leave you full of choices, and dining for any palate.
Mid-Range Destinations
Paris
If there were a world championship of romantic cities, Paris would be the hands-down, heavyweight title holder. So where better to go for the most romantic week of your life? From the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre, you and your new spouse won’t be starved for things to do.
Hawaii
No, Hawaii’s not the most original honeymoon destination, but it’s a classic for a reason. Hawaii provides dozens of locations for you to visit, each with their own unique charms and activities, and since it’s focused so largely on tourism, there are hotels for every price range. All without the hassle of leaving the country.
South Africa
An increasing number of newlyweds are headed to South Africa for their honeymoon and it’s easy to see why: the country offers you everything from breathtaking waterfall views to sleeping among wildlife reserves, supplying you and your spouse with more than a few “Did you just see that?” moments.
High-End Destinations
New Zealand
Long overshadowed by neighbor Australia and then viewed as “that place where they filmed Lord of the Rings,” New Zealand is a historically underappreciated destination for honeymoons. But underappreciated doesn’t mean unworthy and if you’re looking for breathtaking views, easy access to both the countryside and the cosmopolitan, and excellent dining choices—and who isn’t?—New Zealand should be the first place you look for your honeymoon.
The Bahamas
Another honeymoon classic, the Bahamas are close enough geographically (only fifty miles from Florida) that getting there is no problem but far enough in spirit that any stress will fail to pack itself in your suitcase. With its British past, the Bahamas have a unique mix of elegant luxury and hip boutique resorts. Whichever you choose, you’ll have no need—or desire—to think about your upcoming quarterly report.
The Maldives
Close your eyes and try to visualize a tropical paradise. You’re probably thinking blue waters, white sand, year-round temperatures in the 70s, and no distractions to get between you and your new spouse, but with all the comforts you’d expect at home. You’re visualizing the Maldives. Spending a week playing out your Robinson Crusoe fantasies doesn’t come cheap, but if you have the money to spend, there’s no better place for your honeymoon.
