The beach is a great place to relax and enjoy a family vacation, but it’s most often thought of as a romantic destination. Many honeymooners first look to beach locations for that perfect beginning to their new life. If you have ever taken a trip to the beach and taken photos though, you probably know they don’t always come out quite like you imagined.

A nice set of beach photos will preserve the beautiful memories of your honeymoon. Here are some tips to capture moments at the beach that can live on forever. As well as some tips for making taking your photographs enjoyable and tips to ensure you are happy with the outcome.

Beach Photography Tips

The Camera
Bring the right camera equipment along with you. Remember all of the essentials including your camera, batteries, a case, memory cards, battery charger, tripod, external flash, and portable storage devices.

Camera Accessories
You may want to consider some add-ons. As if honeymoons do not cost enough! But to preserve the memories of your beach honeymoon, you may want to strongly consider one more purchase. Consider a circular polarized filter for your camera’s lens. This will create colors and image that seem like they are popping off the page. You’ll end up with a very clear sky and images of the ocean.

Camera Insurance
Insure your camera. If your camera cost more than twenty some dollars, insurance is a great investment. You never know what can happen to your camera at the beach. Another safeguard for your camera is a UV filter. This will protect the lens of your camera for $20 or less.

Landscape Shots
Take a landscape shot. The landscape of a beach, harbor or other destination can accurately display your beach vacation. Be sure to set your camera on its landscape setting and position the camera 15 to 25 feet away from any human subjects in your photography. Adjusting the circular polarized lens will also help to capture the essence of the picture and make the color of the sky or water pop off of the page. This will make for a picture that could pass for a postcard from the local souvenir shop.

Silhouettes
Get artistic with a silhouette picture. Most people never attempt to take such pictures. However, they are rather easy to take and can create very impressive results that you’ll cherish forever. The best time to take silhouette pictures is about one hour before the sun sets. Once the sun begins to set, you have about an hour to capture the best silhouette pictures. Remember to focus on the human subjects of your photograph. It is also important to have some clouds in the sky in order to obtain the best shot possible.

Shadows
When you take photos on the beach as the sun is rising or as it’s going down, you can captures some really interesting shadow. For instance, the shadows on the sand from palm trees will be very elongated at these times of day. Take a few during these hours and see what kind of unique photos you can come up with, especially if it’s at the end of a special night and you’re watching the sun come up!

Horizons
When you’re shooting beach photography, the horizon can play a very important role. First of all, ensure that the horizon is straight. If it isn’t straight it can be really annoying. Although you want it straight, you don’t always want it to be centered. Position the lens so your horizon is above the fold or lower down to capture more of the sky.
