Don't forget your passport.

You definitely need a honeymoon checklist with all the wedding planning you’re doing right now.

It can be easy to forget all the things you have to do before leaving for your honeymoon.

After you book the trip, there are a bunch of simple yet important tasks to complete before your big day.

So in an effort to keep you from forgetting anything…

Here’s a handy checklist for you to print out and use before and during your honeymoon preparations.

20 Things to Do Before Leaving for your Honeymooon

  1. Apply for passports if you’re traveling out of the country.
  2. Request time off from work.
  3. Research the area a bit so you know if it makes more sense to rent a car or rely on taxis/buses.
  4. Schedule appointments for any shots you might need if you are traveling to a foreign country.
  5. Find out if there’s a shuttle to and from your hotel/resort from the airport.
  6. Plan a few activities. You don’t want to be overwhelmed with too many things to do, but you also don’t want to be bored. At least research a few things that are available.
  7. Shop for any clothing you might need.
  8. Find people to house-sit or at least stop by once or twice while you’re gone.
  9. Request that the post office holds your mail (if no one is house-sitting).
  10. Find people to pet-sit or book boarding if you have furry family members that aren’t coming with you.
  11. If you’re traveling during the winter from a northern location, schedule someone to shovel your sidewalk if it snows (you don’t want to come home to fines).
  12. Purchase travel size toiletries.
  13. Print out confirmations for your flights, hotel, and any activities you book before the trip.
  14. Find someone willing to drive you to the airport (if you want to avoid taxi/parking costs).
  15. Fill your prescriptions if necessary.
  16. Call a few days before to confirm your reservations.
  17. Make copies of you driver’s license, passport/visa, confirmation information, and other travel documents. Put extra copies in your luggage and carry-on bags, and leave a copy at home with a loved one.
  18. Give contact information for the hotel and your itinerary to your house-sitter or another loved one.
  19. If you’re traveling a foreign country, write down the phone number and address to the US embassy.
  20. In addition to your checked bags, pack a carry-on bag that has everything you need for a day or two in case your luggage gets lost.

Before you head off on your vacation, make sure that you also purchase travel insurance. No matter how much planning you do, sometimes problems happen. If bad weather cancels a flight, your hotel is overbooked when you get to town, your wallet is lost, you get sick while away, or anything else threatens to dampen your mood while on vacation, travel insurance will help you handle the mistake inexpensively and as quickly as possible so you can get back to starting your new life together.
