Christmas is a beautiful and romantic time to get married. Along with the joy of your wedding there’s the delight and cheer that comes with the season. A holiday wedding can; however, be a challenge when it comes to your floral decorations.
Many of your favorite flowers may be out of season and Poinsettias may feel like your only option. Never fear; however, there are lots of ways to decorate a holiday wedding without Poinsettias.
Ivy
Ivy is a great winter foliage to use for a holiday wedding as it is widely available and creates real impact. You can drape ivy around the doors of your reception to create beautiful doorway arches. You could also lay ivy across the center of your tables. This works particularly well if you have long rectangular tables as ivy can run right down the centre and hang elegantly off the ends. If you’re having an evening reception you can add candles in-between the ivy leaves to create a beautiful illuminated display.
Holly
Holly is a brilliant way to decorate your wedding if you want to embrace a holiday theme. You can create stunning table centre pieces by wiring together sprigs of holly to form a ring shape then placing a large gold, red, or green candle in the centre of the ring. Holly also makes a great button hole as a few holly berries and leaves look elegant and smart in the buttonhole of a suit. Like ivy, holly can also be used to drape around doorways and lay along tables as seasonal table runners.
Mistletoe
Mistletoe is pretty and delicate and is great for a wedding as it’s associated with kissing and romance. You could work small clusters of mistletoe into swathes of ivy leaves to add a touch of winter white. Mistletoe makes a stunning button hole or looks lovely laid next to a table name card. You could also display bunches of mistletoe in clear glass vases to create pretty winter table displays.
Amaryllis
If you still want lots of flowers at your holiday wedding then Amaryllis is a great option. For seasonal colours you could go for displays of red and white Amaryllis. The large size of the flower means the Amaryllis is great for bouquets and dramatic table displays.
