Five Fabulous Honeymoon Ideas

Pin It with STL Weddings

The honeymoon has long been advertised as a way for newlyweds to share their first days together somewhere special. For some it is an opportunity to enjoy the lavish holiday of a lifetime before settling down and having children, and for others it’s simply an opportunity to get away and enjoy each others company without fear of interruption.

For this article, we wanted to think outside of the box – moving away from your typical week pampered at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico or the Caribbean. Here are five fresh ideas that will allow you to make the most of your time together.

Route 66 Road Trip

Kicking off this list is a trip along the infamous Route 66. There may be better roads out there and probably better scenery too, but the romance surrounding this classic American road trip is undeniable. The emptiness and remoteness of Route 66 offers a glimpse of what the USA used to look like before modernization took over. Of course, this trip wouldn’t be complete without a classic American muscle car so splash out on a Mustang to put the icing on the cake.

Camping Under the Stars

This won’t be for everyone, and when people ask what you’re doing for your honeymoon they don’t expect you to utter the C word. But this isn’t just camping, this is eco-friendly luxury camping which has taken the classic British holiday and put it on steroids. I’m talking about the posh hand crafted oak framed yurts complete with proper beds and suave furnishings which are popping up in luxury campsites around the world. South of France anybody?

Mile High Honeymoon

If the thought of the flights to and from your destination aren’t enough, then why not spend your entire honeymoon in an airplane too? Teuge in the Netherlands is home to the ‘airplane suite’, a 40 metre long plane converted into luxury accommodation with a permanent home at Teuge airport. As well as a fully kitted out cockpit where you can full fill various fantasies, this hotel on wings also features a Jacuzzi and Sauna and not a pre-flight procedures in sight.

Maharajas Express

There is undoubtedly a seductive romance surrounding train travel and it doesn’t get any better than the Maharajas’ Express. Travel along the pan-Indian railway from Mumbai to Delhi or Delhi to Calcutta on the most opulent train in the world whilst you discover much that India has to offer from jungles to deserts, and mountains to forts.

Each of the 42 cabins and suites glides on air suspension and features double beds and bathtubs, panoramic windows and access to an observation carriage and fine onboard restaurants. If that isn’t enough, those staying in a suite are provided with a personal chauffeur at each of the scheduled sight seeing stops.

Necker Island – Ultimate Getaway

Sir Richard Branson is a wealthy man, so when he bought an entire island in the middle of the British Virgin Islands and set out to create a luxury resort it was always going to be something special.

Necker island can be booked exclusively, or for parties of up to 28 people. It’s not cheap, but then you are getting the ultimate honeymoon island getaway. Necker Island is setup with facilities for every water sport imaginable, including a unique 3 man submarine which looks like its come straight out of the latest James Bond movie, minus the weaponry.

To cut a long story short just think of anything you would expect to see at a world class resort and it’s got it, plus a whole lot more.

So there you have it – five fabulous honeymoon ideas that will allow you to share your first days together as a married couple in a completely unique and “outside-of-the-box” way. Five trips you’ll never forget!
