Beautiful Tobago Cays
When you think of a romantic island honeymoon, visions of soft breezes, sunny beaches and afternoon naps in a hammock might come to mind.
However, if you and your new spouse also have an interest in exploring the islands, then our list of island getaways is just what you need.
Especially if you’re looking to enjoy a fun, fabulous vacation after your wedding.
In this article, we’ll explore Tobago and Fiji.
And next week, be sure to look out for part two of our series, when we’ll venture in the Cook Islands, the Greek Islands and Pangkor Laut Resort, Malaysia.
Tobago
There are two primary seasons in Tobago, which is situated in the southern Caribbean Sea. The wet season runs from June to December, and the dry season, January to May—so plan your trip and your clothing accordingly.
Although the island is located outside the Atlantic hurricane belt, the area has experienced hurricanes in the past, including Hurricane Flora in September 1963. However, the area offers boundless biodiversity and a cultural heritage that’s more than worth your consideration for your honeymoon travels.
Beach & Water Sports
Enjoy beach and water sports, resort developments and vast expanses of sand in the southwest region near Crown Point International Airport and Crown Point, Store Point, Pigeon Point and Buccoo Reef.
The island also offers extraordinary diving adventures for scuba enthusiasts, particularly for those who enjoy shipwrecks—such as the Maverick Ferry wreck, which used to travel between Trinidad and Tobago.
Exploration
The Tobago Forest Reserve (or the Main Ridge Reserve) is thought to be one of the oldest protected forests in the Western world. The area offers easy access to rainforest exploration and discovery, as government guides will provide guided tours of the forest for a nominal fee.
With daily fast ferry service between Port of Spain and Scarborough, it’s easy to travel throughout the island and enjoy the variety of activities. Don’t miss the seaside village of Plymouth, where you’ll find the famous “Mystery Tombstone,” which includes a peculiar 18th century epitaph.
Of note: The island also was the filming location for the Walt Disney movie “The Swiss Family Robinson.” With a variety of beauty and history to explore, it’s no wonder that Tobago is the destination of choice for many honeymooners.
Fiji
With more than 332 islands, more than 500 islets and an abundance of soft coral reefs, the Republic of Fiji Islands offers a variety of natural wonders to explore.
This island nation in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean Includes the major islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, home to the majority of inhabitants, with 87 percent of the population of nearly 850,000. Most of Fiji’s islands were formed through volcanic activity millions of years ago, and the islands of Vanua Levu and Taveun still see some geothermal activity.
Budget Resorts
Plentiful forest, mineral and fish resources provide the foundation for Fiji’s healthy economy, with the tourism industry and sugar exports being the main sources of foreign exchange. In particular, budget resorts in remote areas continue to fuel the growth of tourism in the area.
Perfect Backdrop
With five-star resorts, pristine beaches, gorgeous sunsets, snorkeling, diving, surfing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and a range of other activities, Fiji undoubtedly can provide the perfect backdrop for any island honeymoon. The natural beauty, opportunities for adventure and relaxed, easy pace of life make Fiji a true tropical paradise.
